How hot can August be? Today, August 2nd, the projected high temperature in the Springfield, Missouri, area is 108 degrees, according to KY3. I know Missouri is not the hottest state in the country...I am beginning to understand why my best friend Tricia lives in North Dakota. I told her earlier this week that I'm almost ready to move there; she reminded me of their winters! Remember the old days when summer was fun, and children played outside all day except for lunch time and dinner time?
Well nobody wants to read about how hot the weather is, so I thought I would remind you how cool it is inside at the Ozark Market Basket. Cool off in the air conditioning while perusing our charming shop enjoying the colors of fall...that's right, fall is out, with more fall merchandise arriving every day. Step one to cooling off its thinking cool thoughts...like how cool our pumpkins and gourds would look on your table or shelves, or how cool the brilliant fall leaves will look on the mantel. There's not much time to enjoy the beauty of fall before Christmas is celebrated, so you might as well get a head start!~

Speaking of school, its hard to believe Ozark starts school again, on August 18th. Wow. Friday, August 5th, through Sunday, August 7th, is a tax free weekend in Missouri (at least state taxes) for certain items, like school supplies, clothes and shoes, computers, etc.--certain limits apply. When you are done with school supply shopping, or clothes shopping, swing by and visit us!
Paint your own fall! Add some orange, brown, yellow and red to the palate in your living room! Tea towels are a quick and economical way to brighten up your kitchen and dining room table! Large pumpkins and mini pumpkins help set the mood for fall. Until you can go outside and sit under a big tree with fall foliage, scatter orange leaves around your table, or tie orange leaves to the back of your chairs!

"If winter is slumber and spring is birth, and summer is life, then autumn rounds out to be reflection. It's a time of year when the leaves are down and the harvest is in and the perennials are gone. Mother Earth just closed up the drapes on another year and it's time to reflect on what's come before."
Mitchell Burgess, Quote from
the TV series Northern Exposure, Thanksgiving, 1992, found here. Oh how I miss the show Northern Exposure, and I would still like to travel to Alaska!

Owls, crows, ravens and turkeys seem to be celebrated in decor more during the fall months. Obviously turkeys are part of a Thanksgiving tradition. But do we just pay more attention to these large birds in the fall? Oh, and then there's the spiders...spiders are great fun to decorate with around Halloween! Spread the cobwebs all over your antique European pub table for a spooky look or cover your coworker's desk or friend's front door with them overnight for a fun practical joke! No Harry Potter fan can forget those horrific man size spiders combined with Ron Weasley's intense fear of spiders! Creepy is sooo fun!
"Glorious are the woods in their latest gold and crimson,
Yet our full-leaved willows are in the freshest green.
Such a kindly autumn, so mercifully dealing
With the growths of summer, I never yet have seen."
